In celebration of our 40th anniversary delivering IT in BC, Avocette is a proud Sponsor of the upcoming #BCTECH Summit 2017 at the Vancouver Convention Centre from March 14th – 15th. Presented by the BC Innovation Council and the provincial government, the #BCTECH Summit “is the largest technology conference in British Columbia showcasing the province’s vibrant technology industry.”

The #BCTECH Summit will give attendees a deep look at how technology is innovating traditional industries, and the latest ideas and innovations fueling the BC economy.

#BCTECH at a glance.

This event is an extraordinary opportunity to gather BC’s entire tech ecosystem together. As Lindsay Chan, Director of the #BCTECH Summit and of Events for the BC Innovation Council explained to Geekwire, “the #BCTECH Summit brings together tech entrepreneurs, anchor companies, business leaders from traditional industries, investors, government and academia to establish new connections and to exchange fresh ideas and innovation to drive business growth.” It is also a place for people to discuss and investigate the solutions to major industry challenges provided by the tech industry.

There are more than 200 speakers slated to be at the two-day conference, providing attendees with a wealth of opportunity to hear provocative global thought leaders share fresh ideas and engaging stories.

Pre-summit events will be held on Monday March 13th, with #BCTECH on the Terrace open to the public from 5:00pm – 8:00pm on the Pacific West Terrace at the Vancouver Convention Centre. The lighting of the Olympic Cauldron at Jack Poole Plaza will officially kick-off the event as a celebration of the technology used to build the cauldron for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics.

Last year’s inaugural event sold out. This year promises to be even bigger and, if it’s possible, better. See you there!

A New, Secure Online Adoption Application for BC

Adopt BC Kids is the first website of its kind in Canada. As a national leader in red tape reduction, British Columbia is streamlining the adoption process by replacing the old paper-driven practices. Adopt BC Kids brings together all the children available for adoption and all the families applying to adopt in a single database. It is personalized and user-friendly with a built-in, automatic matching system.

The new system empowers parents with a secure website and tracking system that allows them to submit an online application. The tracking system also gives parents a better understanding of where they are in the approval process and the required next steps.

In addition, families will have the support of new adoption service hub staff. Staff and families will work together, ensuring application packages have the required supporting documents and lightening the burden on adoption workers. The Adopt BC Kids system combined with the efforts of this staff will enable adoption workers to focus on finding the right match for families and children.

You can read the full announcement from the Ministry of Children and Family Development here.

The Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) chooses Avocette

June 27th, 2016 | Posted in Announcements, In the News

Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) has chosen Avocette to implement the Accela Civic Platform, providing citizens online and mobile services. We are pleased to announce that the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) has awarded Avocette the contract to implement a modern, cloud based Asset Management Solution that will revolutionize their online customer services.

We will be working with the RMOW to implement the Accela Civic Platform, which will empower municipal employees to provide citizens with more efficient and responsive services through online access and mobile devices.

The Civic Platform will give residents 24/7 access to the RMOW’s services from an online portal or an application on their mobile device.

For example:
A citizen spots a problem such as a damaged storm drain and reports it to RMOW directly from their mobile device. The application automatically assigns the incoming request to the appropriate department and staff member, who receives the work order on their mobile device in the field. When they complete the request, the staff member updates the workflow, triggering the application to notify the original citizen of its completion.

The implementation and software costs are estimated to total $1.21 million over the first five years. It is also estimated that using the Accela Civic Platform will save the RMOW more than $1 million in the first five years. Savings will come through more effective and timely management of the municipality’s assets, such as sewer and storm water systems.

Enabling the public to engage with their government both when and how they so choose will help the RMOW extend the life of infrastructure by catching and responding to issues early.

The improved communication between citizens and the municipality will also help the RMOW gain deeper insight into community issues, increase resident satisfaction, and achieve future cost savings on service delivery through the archiving and management of customer service data.

Avocette has 15 current and completed Accela engagements, and more than 25 Accela Consultants based throughout North America.

Ask us how we can save you more than $1 million as well!
